Powers of Nature – A guide to magic in the world of Terces Academy

1. Sustenance and Origin

An important and well known rule of nature is that nothing comes from nothing. In that sense magic has, of course, a source. All magic is sustained by the amounts of energy in the mage’s body. This energy grows with age and can, according to the element of the mage, be filled by different methods. Is all energy gone, the mage is in danger of death.
A simple way to regain lost energy is rest, but as said above, different elements find that there are other ways of sustenance.

2. Magical Elements and their Uses

Magic is built upon five main elements and smaller partial elements crossed between those main elements. Mages tend to be able to use only one or two of the elements instead of all of them. Those, who use a crossed element are only in very few cases able to use the original elements as well.

Pure Elements:

a) Fire

Fire magic is known, as its element, to be very powerful but easily lost. Those with the element of fire are, naturally, able to control fire in certain ways and conjure it. Fire users tend to be more fiery by nature and often end up in heated arguments. They have strong sense of justice and don't fear to stand up and hold their own or their friends side.

b) Water

As the element opposite Fire, Water is more subdued and creating and less destroying though that is not always the case. Beside the control of water, elemantalists can use their power to heal others as well as turn objects permeable. Water users are calmer and kinder by nature and tend to be pleasant to have around.

c) Earth

The element Earth gives the elementalist the power to absorb and augment powers in themselves as well as others. They can also control the earth in a fashion similar to Telekinesis though less powerful. Earth users tend to be really realistic, reliable and easy to trust.

d) Air

Air is one of the more unpredictable elements with powers both destructive and productive. Other than the control of wind and weather elements such as lightning the elementalist can be a healer and can use Telekinesis, Force Shields as well as Light and Dark magic and Sound magic. Wind users tend to be childish pranksters and generally very happy and cheerful - but due the dark element contained within their element their moods can also change to opposite very fast, just like a wind.

e) Ether

In ancient times referred to as the “dark element” Ether is well known to produce destructive magic. The possibilities reach from mind, body and thought control to Necromancy and Mimicry. It is not as feared in modern times anymore. Ether users often appear thoughtful and gloomy but they're actually pretty calm and considerate personalities that simply think more carefully before acting.

Crossed Elements:

Elements can be crossed to create different, secondary elements. Those who have such a power are aware of it as one element instead of two. Elements opposite each other clash and as such can’t be crossed.

Water/Earth --> Plant

Plant magic gets its sustenance from the sun itself, which got it its name. Plant elementalists are most likely healers as well as in control of plants. Plants users tend to be very lovable and cheerful, they are after all controlling life itself. Often they also love helping other people in need.

Air/Water --> Ice

Ice magic, as its name says, is known to produce ice in different forms. Elementalists might be able to turn objects in to ice as well as conjure it from themselves. Ice users seem cold and distant from top but if you manage melting the cold surface you'll soon discover warm heart beating underneath it.

Fire/Air --> Smoke

As fidgety and unable to be held in as smoke is the magic used in this element. It’s powers reach from Mind Reading and Mediumship to the transformation of the body in any form, i.e. Invisibility, Shape Shifting or Teleportation. Smoke users are bit like wind, quick to disappear and change their opinion. They often hide their inner side from others and don't want others to know their secrets. They are still just human and if you manage making friends with one they'll surely bare their soul for you.

Earth/Fire --> Lava

Not much is known about Lava magic. The knowledge of ancient times shows it to be used by oracles of all kinds. Thus, Visionary is a power of Lava. Lava users are calmer than fire users but suffer from similar stubbornness and it can be very hard to get them to change their minds.

3. Limitations for picking element for you character(s)

At maximum character can have two different elements to use but there are some rules for those:
1. The other element has to be pure element (Fire, Water, Earth or Air)
2. Second element must be crossed element that uses the chosen pure element as in:
a) Main element is fire, secondary element can only be smoke OR lava
b) Main element is water, secondary element can only be plant OR ice
c) Main element is earth, secondary element can only be plant OR lava
d) Main element is air, secondary element can only be ice OR smoke

If you wish to have Ether element as your main one you can't have other element because Ether itself contains them all already inside itself but they're much weaker and more chaotic than in pure elements.
